Imants, I try never to confuse reality with what I really want to do. I think that's the only thing saving me from being on the next cot to you friend.

More Soundslides soon from you, I hope?

Thanks.

The printing ain't too bad as the weather cools down. I have been using the epson 2100 printer epson factory profiles and some Velvet paper, which is a bit fragile but so is nurse Creal but has a nice touch. I can get my matte blacks deep enough and my mid tones are starting to get there.I wouldn't mind a go at Museo Silver Rag or if anyone has another suggestion, but I have a show in Melbourne so I may stick to what is working.

I had gloss down Pat but that's like dropping a mandie all show but no substance, but as with other things I like being a cleanskin..................drifting again

Imants, love the contrast and the deep blacks of krumijunk: it's in a direction towards which I've wanted to go in my own timid way...

But with such rich balcks I would have thought that you would want to print with PK inks on a glossy-type paper, no?

I tried gloss and hated the results, some would probably think that its ants pants, but I feel that it gives the printed image a harsh and clinical feel, the subjective/emotive feel disappears, ha! and this comes from a hardened conceptualist.

The cameras used vary from digital to film, there is even a couple M8 images there........... so why in the hell would I want to drop a lazy 10,000 plus miserable aussie pesos on a ma8te and a lens... better off spending it on the white coated clinic junkies that walk around and pixelate as one blinks

p.s. Ed what's this 1/4 mile bullshit we want it in centimetres here just to make the millipedes dance

Gloss vs matte, digital vs film: it's all a trade-off. You're right the M8 shots don't scream "em-ate" — or is it "eh-mate" in Oz? — like they do for someone with the initials GM.

What sort of glossy paper did you try? I agree that a high-gloss paper is not what you would want for your pictures but you may want to try Museo Silver Rag; but, then, it depends on the size that you print: for larger prints — say 60x90cm and 100x150cm — Luster — is fine, in my view. But for me the bottom line is that no matte paper is going to give you the rich, deep, satisfying blacks that your krumijunque deserves.

I have a feeling people have gotten hung up over matte — "fine art" papers they like to call them — because that was all you could do with pigment inks a few years back and then got used to their heavy weight and tactile qualities, but the latter just disappear when framed under glass. Nah, I'll go for the deeper blacks any day — unless you want the effect of platinum prints and concetrate on the midtones instead of the backs.

Sure I see your point, I am actually a recent convert to matte art papers, the last few months, did all my darkroom stuff in gloss. I only print to A+ max, most stuff never sees a frame and sits bare or in containers remember Mitch I do art stuff first and photography is only a part of the game http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1364/683020652_98b1ab1f93.jpg

Then again Krumijunk is destined to remain as net images only, the max size is 600 pixels and 72dpi there are no large versions so it will probably never print anyway and then only to pixel size. I am happy to make 'em and destroy them.

Wish I knew where I'll be at that time. Never been to Melbourne — the culture-vulture capital of Oz? — only Sydney and Perth. Not too fond of the latter, which seems like a huge suburb. Washigton's not that exciting either. Should be getting back to Bangkok in a couple of weeks.

Yea had to book accomodation early, even though I have friends there and a ex or two, need peace and quiet for a day or so to set up.... it's a dumbarsed game one level above watching flog on the idiot box. It's tagged on to some fringe festival i

Only prob with Museo SR is the thickness of the stuff

I've had problems with jamming the printer

Guess I'd better get out the manual and figure out how to adjust those rollers to accomodate it...300 weight or something if I remember

Hmmm....good exercise for this afternoon perhaps, though the day is so beautiful here it's going to be hard to resist getting out for a few snaps before bedtime

Thanks

Allan
