pelfad Posted June 30, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted June 30, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have just got my Leica D-lux 3 and need to invest in a SD card. Apart from the 64MB card that comes as standard I have a 1GB 50X SD card. The dealer where I purchased my camera told me that the I can max use a 2GB card with a minimum 80X speed. Would like to hear if anyone has experince with a 2 GB card or more? How many RAW pictures can I get onto a 2GB card ? Can I use regular SD or can I use SD HC or micro SD? Camera Bag As an alternative to the brown leather case (which has no space for an extra battery) has anyone found another smart solution for a carry case? papa85 Posted June 30, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted June 30, 2007 I use a Lexar 133x speed card and it is a 2 GB card with no problems it is a lot faster then the 64 GB that comes with the camera. I also get 84 Raw files with the 2 GB card. Don't forget you get a JPG with each Raw that is for viewing on the D-Lux-3. Hope this helps..
mokabrew Posted June 30, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted June 30, 2007 I purchased my D LUX 3 via ebay which included the Sandisk Ultra II 4.0GB card. It can handle about 170 pictures in RAW...seems to work fine for me so far.
sanqhar Posted June 30, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted June 30, 2007 See page 18 of the D-Lux3 manual. Â I am currently using a 4Gb SanDisk Ultra II SDHC card. No problems and the camera says it holds 799 jpegs. Â I have read elsewhere that the speed of writing to the card is both limited by the card AND the camera (slowest prevails). I have emailed Leica twice asking them for the speed the camera writes at and have been ignored. If the camera writes at Class 2 there is not much point in spending extra money on a Class 6 card. NOTE - on the Panasonic site for their LX2 (see DMC-LX2 | Digital Still Camera | Compatibility Information | SD/SDHC Memory Card | Digital AV | Product Support | Support | Panasonic Global ) they give the speed according to card and SD cards appear to be written at a different speeds to SDHC ones. IF the D-Lux3 is the same as the LX2 in this respect then this may help. Â If you are using a card reader (rather than downloading from the camera) and are using SDHC cards then your reader must be compatible with the SDHC format. Â Lastly buy your card from a reputable dealer, there are a lot of fakes out there. Â I still had the small leather case that used to hold the white cone for a Weston Master V light meter (dating back to the 1960s). It is approx. 6.5 x 5.5 x 3.5 cms it fits on the strap and holds a spare battery and a card case perfectly. That's my solution. Â tom
tommycrown Posted June 30, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted June 30, 2007 I also have Sandisk Ultra II 4GB card I recently purchased from Amazon for under 50USD. Â It works flawlessly, however, even if the card comes with the SDHC reader thru USB 2.0, i am still having some hard time downloading to my computer, Powerbook G4. Â Card itself works good though. But I believe Ultra II speed is about the same as extreme series. It takes about 5 sec. for shooting each raw. Â Tommy
tommycrown Posted July 1, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted July 1, 2007 I successfully downloaded photos from my Ultra II 4GB to my intel based mac mini. It works extremely fast!!! if you get this card, make sure your comp. can handle SDHC. Â Tommy
