michaelbrenner Posted November 2, 2017 Share #1 Â Posted November 2, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've had a Leica 60mm Macro-Elmarit-R that I've been using (with adapter) on my Leica M 240 with no problems. Â However, on an R6.2 it only produces a small image circle through the viewfinder, not full frame, at all apertures. Â It is the non-ROM lens. Â Any ideas? Â Is there a trick or is it time for a CLA? Â Any help would be most appreciated. Â Has anyone seen this behavior?
Advertisement Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Hi michaelbrenner, Take a look here Leica 60mm Macro-Elmarit-R on R6.2 just small circle not full frame. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Keith (M) Posted November 2, 2017 Share #2  Posted November 2, 2017 (edited) My non-ROM lens works perfectly on my R5 and on my M240 (with R to M adaptor, obviously). Does the little stop-down lever on the back of the lens move OK? When the lens is off the camera does the diaphragm operate as it should? Seems strange that it should be OK on the M240 but not on your R6.2. masjah Posted November 2, 2017 Share #3 Â Posted November 2, 2017 This is indeed strange. If the lens is correctly mounted on the camera, then the aperture, whatever it is, should not affect the image circle (unless, I suppose, it is somehow stopped down to way beyond the normal minimum aperture; after all, a completely closed up aperture won't pass any light through at all). T.E. Posted November 2, 2017 Share #4 Â Posted November 2, 2017 I'm using the same combo, 60mm Macro on R6.2, no problem whatsoever. It's puzzling what could have happened here. The aperture control lever on the 6.2 is OK ? Weak point at R6 and 6.2.
michaelbrenner Posted November 2, 2017 Author Share #5 Â Posted November 2, 2017 Thanks everyone. Â I will send it to Youxin Ye for a CLA. Â He has an R and will be able to give it a thorough testing.
wildlightphoto Posted November 4, 2017 Share #6 Â Posted November 4, 2017 What viewscreen is in the camera? Â What do the pictures (on film) look like?
adan Posted November 10, 2017 Share #7  Posted November 10, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) What viewscreen is in the camera?...  If any - Whenever I've seen an SLR show only a small circular image, it usually means the viewscreen is missing altogether. Or severely dislodged. One is simply looking directly at the back of the lens.  However, the Leica R system did offer an optional reticule screen (clear glass, virtual image, with cross-hairs) - for telescope/microscope use . In this picture, it is typ # 5 (cat. item 14 307). I guess that might look the same as no screen.  http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/g/gdkAAOSwHMJYFdWl/s-l225.jpg  What does the R6.2 viewfinder look like using some other R lens? michaelbrenner Posted November 10, 2017 Author Share #8 Â Posted November 10, 2017 Looks like the R6.2 was the problem, not the lens. Â The lens was tested professionally and found to be working perfectly. Â After a CLA, it will be better than ever. Â Meanwhile, the R6.2 is on it's way to Leica for repair and cleaning... thanks again everyone for your help.
gvaliquette Posted November 14, 2017 Share #9  Posted November 14, 2017 wildlightphoto, adan, good pickup! I never noticed that the original post was referring to the image in the viewfinder, not the actual photograph!  Michael, don't send the R6.2 in just yet. If the issue is indeed the viewscreen, the camera itself may be just fine; you simply need a new - different - viewfinder screen.  Guy
