At least not all of March and April were wasted due to this stupid lockdown.  Some of my wife's pride and joy Irises, taken over Memorial day weekend in our garden.

SL / 90-280 APO Vario-Elmarit SL......................handheld, since I couldn't get my favorite RRS tripod low enough for what I thought was the correct level.

............and another, again, handheld with the SL / 90-280.

I find the 90-280 particularly well-suited for this type of photography, since I simply can't get close enough to use my M Macro lens without trampling & damaging the plant, but the 90-280 does a stellar job at about 200 to 230mm and allows me to find the perfect position from which to shoot to get just the right  light and perspective I want.

John, you must practice tiptoeing through the irises. ;0) Kidding, of course. There are certainly advantages to being able to stand off. Thank your wife for such lovely blossoms by the way. Just from a personal view, I prefer being able to get in close most of the time. Though my 'style'  or vision with botanicals tends generally to be more, ethereal. It has been, for me, a difficult move from Nikon w/ Nikkor Micro to a Leica rig that can produce a similar result without adding much size and complexity to the lens configuration. Used El Pro 52 first with both a 35 and 50 'Lux's, then obtained the Macro-Elmar-M 90, v1 with adapter.  It's okay and think it may suit as I learn to use it. Had intended to forget botanicals when I sold all my Nikon equipment, but miss it. Regards.

Leica SL 601 / Minolta RF 500/8 mirror lens / Minolta SR extension tubes … technical exercise exploring lens' close-up potential . In 1979 the Minolta RF 500/8 was badge engineered into the Leitz MR Telyt R 500/8.  Image taken at 3.2 m distance at approx 0.5 magnification using backlit window lighting plus front side crumpled tin foil reflector.

Best wishes
