PMendes Posted July 25, 2018 Share #21  Posted July 25, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) The leak doesn't come from the lens but from the adapter. I have also strong light leaks with my Vario-Elmar-R 3,5-4 21-35mm and my Vario-Elmarit-R 28-90mm when using the big stopper (15 stops) I hope Leica people read this forum and corrects this expensive adapter. Advertisement Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Hi PMendes, Take a look here Leica R-Adapter-L Issue. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ramarren Posted July 25, 2018 Share #22  Posted July 25, 2018 I'm not much of a purist: I'd just put a piece of tape over the joint. This is a particularly easy solution when you only have one lens since you can just leave the lens and adapter mated together and take them on and off the camera at the native lens mounting interface.  I've not seen any such issues with my two-adapter stack (R Adapter M stacked onto M Adapter T(L)) but then I don't often do extended time exposures, nor do I usually use such large and heavy lenses. I suppose I should check the setup...
jmahto Posted July 25, 2018 Share #23 Â Posted July 25, 2018 (edited) A few days ago I acquired an R 280mm f/4-TELYT-R ROM (late #374...) lens in mint condition, virtually indistinguishable from a new one. Â This is my first R lens, and I acquired it in lieu of the excellent Leica 90-280 Vario-Elmarit-SL for reasons unrelated to this topic. Â Needing an adapter, I purchased the Leica R-Adapter-L, instead of a less costly third party adapter. Â Today marked my first outing with the lens, and I couldn't be more pleased with this setup, except for one issue I encountered. Â The fit between the camera and the adapter is snug, with no movement whatsoever; however, the fit between the adapter and the lens is not so perfect. Â When fully engaged, I can twist the lens and it exhibits some slight back and forth movement between the lens and the adapter, perhaps less than one degree, but enough to cause concern, especially given the snug fit at the camera end. This is the only R lenses I own, and so I cannot test the setup with other lenses. Â I have both the Leica M-Adaper-L and the S-Adapter-L, and I have found no issues with either of them. Â I am sure that there are others with this R-Adapter-L setup, and I would love to hear from you. Â Has anyone else encountered this issue? Â Â Thanks, Robert I have experience with Leica M to R adapter (which is tight fit on both ends) but still can cause light leak in right circumstances (more chances for longer exposure time). My theory is that the weight of the lens causes the mount to flex a tiny bit letting light in. As I said that my adapter is tight on both ends without movement but still I have seen the issue. That is why I am not sure that quest for right adapter is going to help. Since I am aware of the issue, I simply cover the joint with a piece of cloth and don't get any leak.
