David Farkas has no doubts about Leica delivering an S 350 APO, and possibly longer lenses.

Oh wait, he posted that here in May, 2011.

Errr, what is wrong with popping an Apo-Modul system on an SL? Or even better, the 105-280 and Apo-extenders...Taking medium format on Safari is an exercise in futility, have you ever seen the size of the Mamiya 500 and experienced the difficulties of handling a 2x-extended lens, i.e. a slow, immense and unwieldy 1000mm on a 645 camera. I did it - once-. Never again.

And I'd be very interested to learn of a Panasonic 42.4 MP camera. AFAIK their top models are the GH5 and GX8, which have a 20 MP MFT sensor...

im taking MF on Safari in September and stuck with manual focus as well......... it might be my last time doing that but I will hopefully have fun trying

I took a 6x6 film camera on safari twice in 2008. I would do it again with the S.

I have a 700mm lens for Hasselblad. Someday I might even use it.

And I shlepped a full Rollie 6x6 kit into the Egyptian desert in mid-June that same year. The only thing hotter than the desert sand, were the interior compartments of the pyramids. Like walking into a brick oven. Last week, my youngest reminded me that it took "2 1/2 hours" for the TSA to confirm that my big bag of 120 film packets posed no mortal risk to fellow passengers. It took considerably less time that, but not in his mind. In Egypt, people shied away from that beast when I raised it to my eye. In Israel, a soldier called it a "bazooka." Removing the 90* finder, and attaching the waist finder removed a great deal of angst. That remains my litmus test for the "is it too heavy and cumbersome to carry" question.

That is too funny. Probably not at the time.
