memorylane Posted August 14, 2017 Share #1 Â Posted August 14, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a coating loss on the front element, which is about 3mm side to side and 4 mm top to bottom. Â I read somewhere that a fleck of coating loss isn't critical as it only contributes to more flare. Â A haze would consider to be more critical than slight coating loss. Â Should i be concern or leave it as is? Â Will more coating come off? Â Â
Advertisement Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Hi memorylane, Take a look here Summaron 35 2.8 Coating Loss. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
spydrxx Posted August 14, 2017 Share #2 Â Posted August 14, 2017 The coating is important in tamig glare, use a hood and you should be ok unless you are shooting directly into the light. OTOH, you can always have the lens recoated by someone like John Shelton at Focal Point (if your pocket book is deep enough) www.focalpointlens.com/
oldwino Posted August 17, 2017 Share #3 Â Posted August 17, 2017 I once had a nikkor 8.5cm F2 ltm lens that had a big (0.5x0.5cm) bit of the coating missing right in the center of the lens. I never noticed it in the photos.
