Peter Branch Posted August 8, 2017 Share #1  Posted August 8, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) A strange strobe effect I have not previously encountered - - and I cannot understand why it has occurred.  It is on several, but not all, of the pictures I took at a water based birthday party but only when I was shooting in Continuous Mode.  Electronic shutter set to Extended - but that does not seem to explain it as the shutter speed was 1/160 sec.  Any one else seen this and can explain it? blacksinner Posted August 8, 2017 Share #2 Â Posted August 8, 2017 sorry but, i don't get what is your concern. if what you mean, why the electronic shutter is not perform when the shutter is 1/160sec, it is not if you set to extended. it work above 1/8000sec. if you set to always on then it will works with 1/160sec. i hope this is what you mean
Peter Branch Posted August 8, 2017 Author Share #3  Posted August 8, 2017 Perhaps this one shows the effect better. Welcome, dear visitor! Ingo Posted August 8, 2017 Share #4 Â Posted August 8, 2017 What is wrong in the pictures?Do you mean the in-motion unsharpness of the water drops? This can happen with 1/160 shutter speed and will not occour with approx. 1/1000 or faster.
Peter Branch Posted August 8, 2017 Author Share #5  Posted August 8, 2017 I think I may have found an explanation.  It transpires that as well as water pistols, which give a continuous stream of water and would not cause such an array of simultaneous droplets, there were also "Water Bombs" which don't show up in any of the pictures but could well explain a simultaneous release of so many large droplets.  The camera was recording exactly what was happening. I deliberately did not want to use a high shutter speed, as the effect can be quite unnatural, so the large droplets show up as streaks.  Thanks for the interest.
