Keith (M) Posted July 21, 2017 Share #1  Posted July 21, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) According to Leica Wiki, there is a gap between 1988 ser nos. 1738450 and 1762451.  Which is a puzzle as I have seen (at a reputable UK dealer) an R5 with ser no. 1754xxx.  Some entries missing from the Leica Wiki listing or ??? Advertisement Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Hi Keith (M), Take a look here R5 Serial Numbers. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Keith (M) Posted July 21, 2017 Author Share #2  Posted July 21, 2017 Hmm, the puzzle deepens.  Looking further into the anomaly, I found that Leica Wiki and this French site both list #1754396 as a R6, manufactured in 1988.  However, the photos on the Harrisons site show it to be an R5, complete with 1/2000sec shutter speed.  https://www.harrisoncameras.co.uk/pd/used-leica-r5-black-film-slr-camera_used-1754396  Anyone any ideas as to the contradictory information?
gbealnz Posted July 21, 2017 Share #3 Â Posted July 21, 2017 Something screwy with the French site you linked to Keith. Out of interest I plugged in the serial number of my R6, #1768924, and it shows as an R5, from 1989. It is black though, so not all is lost. Begs the question though, the OM gear, I thought that had staved off the R attack? Gary

Snap, same wife comment, different time zone. I too have laboured over a similar decision a while back, same "directive" from mine. "Buy Leica". Yes dear.
