I've been a member off and on since the early 70's. Can't complain since a won a new Hammertone MP, Leicavit and 35 asph summicron in their drawing this year.

There used to be good deals on used gear but not so much anymore. Articles in the magazine have branched out beyond just Leica which I think is good. Some of the articles are OK but for the most part are a little lame. I'm not a collector and really don't care about the color of the R on one body or another but if you're into the tiny differences of one camera over another then it might be a good organization. I've been to one meeting and enjoyed it but never gon on any of the european trips and most likely won't.

Good people at the corporate and easy to deal with.

I was a member for a few years but dropped out.

The magazine (Viewfinder) is nicely done but seemed (at least to me) aimed more at the collector or historian than at the user. I found that the LHSA pretty much made up its own schedule for publishing. Although it's issued four times a year, issues are often spaced more widely than three months apart.

I'm not sure if new members automatically receive it, but the DVD with all the back issues of Viewfinder is worth the price of membership if your into Leica history.

I can think of worse ways to spend $55.
