hi andy.. great thing.. have no read all that thread but quick overview looks nice...

im a big fun of this particular paper (mcc111, but love the 118 too in many cases)...

there are many great papers (ilford bergger, adox, and fotospeed legacy that is not exactly agfa but close somehow)... still, mcc111 is one of the most amazing.. it goes well always...... neutral, not overly dominanat characteristic like some other papers , and always gives a great "look"...

and of course... apx 100 is the sexiest b/w film i know.. in both formats (small and medium)

and well, maybe big ones will be too in the future ?

The problem with all those new attempts to reach the old material qualifications is that it's impossible to reproduce the same photo paper and film on another coating line.

So a lot of product specific parameters are going to be lost.

Even Foma tried in 2006 to bring a compatible MCC on the market (Fomabrom Variant) with some look alike features but not the same. It's a nice baryta paper but not matching exactly the MCC paper.

They are trying to make a modified Fomatone MG 131 very close to Forte PW14 now to fill up this gap on behalf of Bergger, Moersch and our Fotohuis (and some other export partners) but everybody knows who is in professional coating business that it is impossible to reproduce 100% a photo paper or a film on another coating line.

Foma has also a small coating line and experience since 1921 in this matter but calculations in the classical B&W paper market shows very quickly that for economical reasons this is a very dangerous area.

Even Ilford will not launch their Delta 25 film because the market for this kind of films is simply too small and still decreasing. Even the fact that the profit for each square meter film production is much higher than for photo paper production does not help enough. They have a fine worldwide distributor network. Production of nice materials is not good enough. You have to be able to distribute the products worldwide in a still shrinking market. If you do not have that worldwide network you will end in a suicidal mission.

Sjalom Vic,

We are from the Fotohuis company in the Netherlands. Fotohuis RoVo but that you could also find in our profile.

APX 100 is a very nice film especially in a 1+50 Rodinal development. The material is still available in the 35mm 135 micron version, both on 135-36 and 120 roll film under the Rollei Retro 100 brand. Rollei/Maco bought all main master roll stock from Agfa Photo when they went bankrupted. It's all from production run end 2005.

Same they did with the APX 400 master rolls. Also still available.
