Edgy01 Posted June 26, 2017 Share #1 Â Posted June 26, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Have used GPS tagging for many years on other systems so I was delighted to read that the SL has an integrated GPS antenna and receiver, however.... Â I'm only getting the Lat and Long and Zulu time data. Â The elevation data is missing, either by an error in the parsing of the data, or something? Â Anyone else seeing elevation data (default is meters). Â Dan
Advertisement Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Hi Edgy01, Take a look here GPS Contents Incomplete. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
steppenw0lf Posted June 26, 2017 Share #2 Â Posted June 26, 2017 This is /was the case since the beginning. Â Very few complaints, as this is not crucial for most users. This is also the case for other cameras I have seen. In the worst case you can use a database to read out the altitude. Of course this is not valid if you are using hot-air balloons, but then you usually have other tools to measure the altitude.
pop Posted June 26, 2017 Share #3 Â Posted June 26, 2017 It isn't correct on bridges, either, while it's rarely a problem in tunnels.
ramarren Posted June 27, 2017 Share #4 Â Posted June 27, 2017 GPS tagging isn't very important to me overall, the SL's lat/long and time are more than enough (I usually strip it when I post photographs ... the point of my photographs is rarely hinging on where and when they were made... ). Â If I do need more specific information, I snap a shot with my iPhone at the appropriate locations, which has all the information in it, and then coalesce that data with the SL photographs. It's simplistic, but such are my needs.
Edgy01 Posted June 27, 2017 Author Share #5 Â Posted June 27, 2017 Thanks, guys. Â The reason I ask is because my other GPS sensors which I have used for several years for my D2X and D3 Nikons reports X, Y, and Z (Lat, Long and elevation) and of course, Zulu time. Â I was surprised to see that the Leica gives me Lat-Long but no elevation at all--just gives "00.0 meters." Â Perhaps in a future software release the anal excessive Germans will finally parse all the information from GPS! Â Dan
