No picture is going to succeed or fail solely due to the out of focus rendering of either lens.

Many won't. I'm just showing some of the differences between the two lenses. The SL50 has been called "crap", "Sony clone", "sterile" and so on by some clowns on this forum. The OP said he hated it in the initial post of this thread but apparently loves the Otus on a Sony a7x. The out of focus areas sometimes add to the story. They are not there just for buttery blur.

Has it? I thought the only main reservation related - like the Otus - to its size.

Yes, can you believe that? And just when one thought that the attempts to disparage this lens couldn't get more moronic, somebody implied that Russian oligarchs would buy the SL50 just to hang it on their rearview mirrors. I couldn't stop laughing for days.
