RoySmith Posted June 16, 2017 Share #2 Posted June 16, 2017 It looks like there was no software correction. Is the lens coded - or was the lens profile selected ?
Marac Posted June 18, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted June 18, 2017 Thanks Roy, Im up in the lake district so internet is a rare thing... The lens is M lens, I am using the novoflex adapter so coding is not an option. I do have the camera set for M-Lens 24mm elmarit-m Strangely enough, after leaving the batteries out overnight for charging it seems to of reset itself somehow and is a lot better. Also I am using a Samsung pro 5 with windows 10 on it (way smaller than taking my mac) so might be the screen on here too adding to the problem. I am not about to panic and hit the SELL IT button just yet but thought it rather strange to be so strong in the image. Anyway maybe it just needed a good old fashioned kick up the ass. Another thing is that i am shooting raw on 1 card and jpg on the other and only looking at the jpg .... When i get back tomorrow i will put the raw files on my mac and correct them in lightroom. RoySmith Posted June 18, 2017 Share #4 Posted June 18, 2017 I'm wondering if the upgrade to FW 3.0 erased the lens selection for the elmarit 24mm f2.8 ? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Marac Posted June 18, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted June 18, 2017 It is still there.. I'm gonna go with human error.. most likely cause
ramarren Posted June 18, 2017 Share #6 Posted June 18, 2017 A possibility: I found when testing M lenses on the SL with v3 that the very first time I fitted a lens (using the M Adapter L) with the lens profile set to Automatic, the lens was unrecognized. Manually selecting a profile seemed to work, but powering off then powering on with the Lens Profile selection on Automatic still didn't work. I then had a thought—I removed and replaced the lens. From that point on, ALL my lenses are properly recognized automatically if they are coded. So I conjecture that problems like this are possibly a configuration/initialization issue: The code which is needed to properly invoke and perform the M lens correction and recognition is missing some initialization that removing and replacing the lens triggers. Once initialized, it works every time. I'll report my experience and conjecture to Leica...

frame-it Posted June 19, 2017 Share #8 Posted June 19, 2017 when i updated the fw 3 i followed what Godfrey said, and sure enough, the 50 lux was mounted on the camera during the update, after rebooting the lens was not recognized..i powered off, detached the lens and m-adapter-t, and re-attached everything...when i powered up the camera i got a pop up message saying "new lens detected 50 f1.4 summilux asph" etc etc did the same for my other lenses. weird but worked fine
Marac Posted June 19, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted June 19, 2017 I have to set my lenses manually because I'm using the Novoflex version of the adapter so it cannot read lens coding. However, for some weird reason it seems to of improved, possibly by my changing lenses I have no idea, I'm just happy it seems better now. I may consider selling my 24 ASPH and keeping my 28 Elmarit-M or maybe just selling them both and going with a MATE instead. Anyway, we had a wonderful trip and I will post some photos later in the SL thread. Thank you everyone for the input, it can be really comforting during a crisis
adli Posted June 19, 2017 Share #10 Posted June 19, 2017 I had problems with occational vignetting on my 24 Elmarit. It turned out that the rear element was loose. When it slided backwards, the lens vigneted.
Marac Posted June 22, 2017 Author Share #11 Posted June 22, 2017 Well the big major update is this, and it surprised me too but I was offered a great deal from RedDot Cameras 24 Elmarit-M asph / 35 summarit-m f2.5 / 75 summarit-m f2.5 / 90 summarit-m f2.5 / voigtlander 15mm optical finder traded direct against a Leica Vario Elmarit 24-90 SL f2.8-4 So yes, I have traded 4 lenses for 1 that does AF, not had a great chance to test it yet but the snaps around London I took look pretty good. The lens is big but compliments my SL in its leather jacket, the balance seems weird but no different from that I remember with my D800 + 24-70. Included a photo taken on my phone sat next to the wifes Sony A7, I can remember thinking to myself I would never go back to a DSLR heavy type of camera, but I have. I will let you know if it is a decision I regret in a few weeks but early thoughts considered, I'm delighted to have a 1 camera 1 lens set up. I did hold on to my 28mm Elmarit-M (latest version plastic hood) and also my gorgeous Pre-asph 50mm Summilux because I do still have an M8 that is away having a conversion to IR (this is because the sensor coating was damaged)...
