Years ago,in 1975 I was in a camera store in los Angeles, Frank's Highland Park Camera. A very busy place. I was standing next to a gentleman that was purchasing a Leica M4 50th Anniversary. I remember thinking that was one of the most beautiful cameras I had ever seen. At 32 years of age, it was far beyond my means.

Well, I just recieved the M4 50th Anniversary from KEH. It is truly in like new condition and just as beautiful as I remember it, How strange to feel so strongly about a camera!

I know many of you have traveled the same road. I just wanted to share it with you!

Wishing you many productive years with your M4 50 JAHR Al, ... is it a Wetzlar model or Canadian?

I recall 30 years ago in 1977 when I bought my first 'decent' camera s/hand in what was I think London Camera Exchange at Cannon Street tube station ... it was a used Zeiss Contina with a 45/2.8 Pantar lens priced at £12 .. and the salesman gave me a complimentary roll of FP4 ... also bought "All in One Camera Book" which was a revelation to me at the time ...

But what also struck me at the time was a Leica user in the shop trying out several lenses on a Leica rangefinder ... and I recall thinking to myself, " Must be very satisfying to keep switching lenses like that ... maybe one day I will be able to afford a Leica"

I subsequently bought my first used Leica from Jessops in Peterborough ... in 1989 ... it was an SL with a twin cam 50mm Summicron and they sold me a 90/2.8 Elmarit to go with it for total of £330 ... all ex exhibition stock thus discounted but I forget which exhibition the items had been in.

Compared to my AE1, the SL was like a Rolls Royce and it served me very well for many years. I always regretted selling it thus recently decided to buy another ... and was lucky enough to find a black model in almost mint condition. I still have the original 50mm Summicron lens but it was subsequently converted to 3 cam by Milton Keynes in 1992.

And a few weeks back I also bought a 50 Jahr Leica .. an M5 .
