willberforce Posted May 2, 2017 Share #1  Posted May 2, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone  I was looking for some guidance in order to help repair the above lens  A couple of screws had come loose on the plate that hold the lens to the camera. So I thought I'd just take it apart and give the parts an air clean before popping them back together... Now I can't put it back together again, and I've aborted trying as I don't want to damage any threads etc..  If we can get over the fact that I'm an idiot for taking it apart, can anyone help guide me through putting it back together?  I couldn't get my head around correct placing so that all the components are in alignment. There was also an issue with getting thread to screw together - I don't think I've crossthreaded, and I didn't want to persevere in case I did  Can anyone help please?! I can post photos etc

Herr Barnack Posted May 3, 2017 Share #2  Posted May 3, 2017 At this point, the best thing you can do is send it to the Leica NJ repair department and have them set things right. That, and learn from this experience.
tobey bilek Posted May 3, 2017 Share #3  Posted May 3, 2017 You took the lens mount off?  Small #2 JIS screw driver.  These are not phillips.  small tweezers to insert screw in hole.  tighten with JIS.  Hold the lens so the red dot is at 2 o clock as seen from rear.  The cut out on the lens mount to lock the lens to camera is at 3 o clock .  Looks like recessed grove 3 mm wide.  Tighten in star pattern first round just to snug, repeat star with a little more torque, repeat with more, until fully tight.  Star is like you mount tires on a car.  Check focus as you go  and if you get a bind, back off last done.  You have distorted helical.  If helical has come apart,  all you can do keep trying different start points because you failed to use witness marks for reassembly.  DAG charges double when equipment is already apart.  A real pain.  If you got to this stage,  send out for repair.  And put a white bath towel on the table so when you drop screws,  you can find them.  Micro tools sells JIS and nice small tweezers. Mine have 45 degree bend at points.  In the mean time,  put the parts where they will stay clean and not get lost.  Best of luck
