DaveEP Posted June 19, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 19, 2007 Hi Guy Can we get a shorter self timer release??? Thanks David Why not just make the timer release menu select a number between (say) 1 and 30 seconds using the scroll wheel
carstenw Posted June 19, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 19, 2007 In that case 0-30, where 0 is a small number, like 0.3-0.5s.
harmsr Posted June 19, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 19, 2007 The self-timer has the option of 2 seconds or 10 seconds in the menu now. If that doesn't work, you always have the cable release option. Not sure if you were aware of the menu option. Best, Ray
carstenw Posted June 19, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 19, 2007 Not sure who you were answering, Ray, but I do use both 2 and 12 seconds. The 0 second timer would be to get shake-free releases in touchy situations.
harmsr Posted June 19, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 19, 2007 Hi Carsten, I was actually answering David the original poster. For the situation that you mention of avoiding any shake but wanting immediate release, I use the cable release. Best, Ray
carstenw Posted June 19, 2007 Share #7 Posted June 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hand-held? I would prefer a 0-second countdown for this, as you only have to press the shutter lightly, and hesitate while the shot is made. No hard press, through two levels of stiff shutter. DaveEP Posted June 19, 2007 Share #8 Posted June 19, 2007 Hi Carsten, I was actually answering David the original poster. For the situation that you mention of avoiding any shake but wanting immediate release, I use the cable release. Best, Ray The cable release I have requires a lot more hand movement to trigger the sutter. A user definable delay (say 0.25 seconds) may be the best option. However, even then, I notice that there is still some 'kick' from the shutter as it moves at slower speeds (which is where you would want this anyway). harmsr Posted June 19, 2007 Share #9 Posted June 19, 2007 I guess that I'm talking a different subject than you guys. I only end up using the self timer for non time critical shots on a tripod. The cable release gets used when on the table top tripod or a regular tripod, when I want to eliminate any shake or do a long exposure and expose when I decide. Maybe it is me, but my shutter button is not that bad. For hand holding, I find it very easy to push through the stiff part until the exposure locks then do a smooth press to fire the shutter. I do not use one of the "softies" like I do on my M5. When using the "softie" on the M8 it seems to make it more difficult to feel the stop point for exposure lock, then the smooth press for firing the shot. As long as I have not had "Red Bull" (since I don't like coffee), the pictures come out nicely sharp even at 1/15 of a second with the 50 Lux. Are you guys, saying that the self-timer would be used basically to eliminate shake since it would lag slightly behind any jars from pushing the shutter button?
