Hi guys,

thinking about getting the Q for wedding work.

Anyone have issues with the scratch-resistance of the EVF? It looks very little protected.

I saw this video and at 2.30 min you see a heavily (!) scratched EVF. Or maybe it´s just dirt? Don´t know.

So what is your experience there?

Thank you,

Heiko

It does not look like scratches to me, but smudges from someone putting the finger or facial oil on it.

It's NEVER been an issue on my camera and I don't remember anyone on the forum making a big issue of it. I keep a microfiber cloth and clean the EVF just like I clean the rear LCD. I do have a Leica protective glass over the LCD. I've never seen the need to do that with the EVF. Good luck deciding.

I think the smudges you refer to were just that, smudges ... they covered an area in one errr mmm well 'smudge', I don't think a scratch would. I agree with Infiniumguy above, probably finger marks etc.  Mine gets the same marks on but always cleans up nicely.

Go for it ...

I use my Q for wedding work and I've never had a problem with it. I do my best to keep everything safe but I do not consider myself delicate with my equipment. I'm not sure if it is related to heavy use but I did have to send my Q in to repair a looseness inside the lens assembly.

From March of 2015 to Nov. of 2016, I covered the US presidential election for my agency, Polaris Images, constantly out on the campaign trail, with all the various candidates. I got the Q in October of '15 and used it for 13 months for this kind of coverage, and have no scratches on the EVF cover.
