Taken with an M9, Viso 2, bellows and a 65mm Elmar (first version) mounted on a tripod looking down. The lighting was an anglepoise lamp fitted with an enlarger opal bulb at a low angle to emphasize the relief. Between the medal and the lens was a sheet of glass at 45deg to throw light onto the face of the medal, the photo being taken through the glass (which was an old half-plate with the emulsion removed and polished.
