Ivar B Posted February 27, 2017 Share #1  Posted February 27, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have just bought a used Super-Elmar-M 3.8/18mm (in like new condition) and I intend to use the lens on the SL.  I use a UV-filter as protection on all my other lenses, but this is a bit clumsy it looks on the 18mm as a separate 77mm filter holder #14 484 is needed.  Are there anyone out there who use this and can give a reccomendation as to if it is worh buying? Advertisement Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Hi Ivar B, Take a look here Filter holder for Super-Elmar 3.8/18mm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stevesurf Posted March 1, 2017 Share #2  Posted March 1, 2017 I actually use a similar but smaller adapter on my Tri-Elmar (E67), but not on the 18mm.  IMHO it makes the assembly pretty large (E77, see below) and I just keep the slip on lens cap on as much as possible and just slip it on, then off as needed.   The other consideration is the weakness of the vented portion of the filter adapter.  If you carry your camera plus 18mm SEM in a tight space, you  may someday find it warped if you happen to change the filter.  Modern Leica filters and filter adapters are largely aluminum, probably because they are made for Leica, in contrast to the older, uncoated chromed brass filters like the E39 GGr HOOGU
