Which M lenses for architecture/street photography?

Your classic street focal lengths are 28mm, 35mm and 50mm. Anything wider or longer and I think you loose the connection with your subjects. If you just want it for those purposes then realistically you don't need or want to be shooting any wider than f/5.6 and ideally at f/8. You could reasonably argue then that the ideal choice for budget and function would be a 35mm Elmarit, maybe even the Summaron although 28mm is very wide and you need to be particularly brave and skilled to make proper use of 28mm for street photography. That said, 28mm might work better for architecture.

Personally, I think a 35mm Summicron is perfect and still has versatility for shooting at wider apertures. On the SL, it's actually relatively easy to focus quickly at that aperture. I know people who can be similarly quick to focus that aperture on a rangefinder thanks I think to their muscle memory.
