Leica MD Sleep Behaviour?

Recommended Posts

I can feel myself being more and more drawn to an MD with every passing day.

However there's one major point of concern, which regards how the camera awakes after it's been to sleep.

When I tested the M60, it's only major failing (apart from locking up) was that if I didn't habitually give the shutter button a half-press every minute, it would go to sleep after 2. Then it would take an eternity before I could take a picture again. Obviously with no menu, there was nothing I could do about this.

So how does the MD now behave (with the current firmware). Does it wake up quick. Is there a choice of whether to go to sleep or stay awake, etc.

Cheers,

My MD with the firmware corrected with sleep mode go on sleep after 30 seconde ( frameline extinguish).

Any half press re-illuminate immediately the frameline.

When in sleep mode after 30s it is anytime ready with imediate firing action ( zero delay) .

delay to light up the camera is 1 seconde ( eyefi pro sd wifi card 32g).

Battery is uge ( burn around 80 pourcent of battery over 12h stby)

The M-D sleeps after a short time and wakes from sleep almost immediately, maybe up to a second depending on the size and speed of your SD card.

I tend to get between 350 and 450 exposures from a single battery charge.

I have never missed a shot while waiting for the camera to wake up.  Turning ON from OFF is somewhat slow (a couple of seconds), but waking up from sleep is super quick.  Tap the trigger while raising the camera to your eye and it'll be ready to shoot by the time you're looking through the viewfinder.

I have lost shots by turning the camera off and putting the lens cap on, then forgetting to take the lens cap back off again for the next shot  So main message is: don't turn the camera off.
