battery life?

just to be clear. I turned off preview, I turned off live view. I manually set my exposure. No auto shutter or auto ISO. No jpg created, DNG only.

Essentially bare minimum. As if I was shooting film. No going in and tweaking settings.

I shot 558 today and have 35% battery left. I chimped alot today and used Monochrome preview, but no jpeg.

Something I've noticed, use of wifi to drive your camera with your iPhone eats up 5% of battery power with every connection.

I got my M10 a week before going on vacation, including some long hikes. I was a bit worried about battery life, since my dealer didn't have any spare batteries in stock yet.

I have been pleasantly surprised. I don't chimp (the auto review is set to off), and the camera is set to sleep after 2 minutes. I have been shooting several hundred photos a day (I usually bracket) with some use of the EVF and the battery hasn't dropped below 60%.

Yesterday I went on a 90 minute doors off helicopter tour, shot 678 photos with the EVF on all the time, and the battery had only dropped to 68%. I was shocked. I thought it would be close to dead and that I'd have to charge the battery in the car on the way to the next place. Maybe it had something to do with the short period of time over which the photos were taken. The flight was rough, so I was machine-gunning like mad in an effort increase my keeper rate. FYI, it is very easy to take lots of pictures with the rotors in them using a 28 mm lens. :)

I would also like the option of being able to charge the battery using an external battery pack. I have one that I use for my phone and iPad on long flights etc., and on long backcountry hikes or stays at backcountry lodges that have no power, it would be nice to be able to charge from a battery pack. My better half has a Sony a7rii. Its battery is smaller than the M10, and you can charge the battery in that camera from an external battery pack via usb. It would be nice if we could do the same, either in the camera, or with a usb connection to the charger.

There had been threads on charging M's battery from external packs. Search it up. Note that if you do go the route of external packs then airlines have some limitation on the size of battery as well. I remember that it was discussed in the battery charging threads as well.

... and welcome to the forum. This is a very helpful forum with knowledgeable and passionate members. :)
