andybarton Posted June 17, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) This shop is the only shop on the island. The nearest "Co-op" is in Bowmore, which is a £16 return ferry ride away (don't go shopping on a Wednesday, or you will wait an hour for the ferry both ways...) The shop is the bit on the right, btw...
Advertisement Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Hi andybarton, Take a look here Jura Stores. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest Metroman Posted June 21, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 21, 2007 Andy: Thank you, this brought back some memories for me. I worked with a Naval Nurse - Ruth Shead - at the Royal Naval Hospital in Plymouth in the 70's and she came from Jura. Ruth's Dad owned most of the commercial entreprises on the island, stores, pub, petrol. I know Ruth got married and moved away not sure if the family are still there. Cannot for the life of me remember his first name. I do remember big juicy joints of venison though. I did hear the pub is no more, possibly private residence. I imagine it is much changed now 30 years on.
andybarton Posted June 21, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted June 21, 2007 Jura is a little bit like "The Land That Time Forgot", especially when you get north of here. Get to the very end of the road, and "Deliverance" springs to mind Midges to die for, too, up in the hills...
Guest Metroman Posted June 21, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 21, 2007 Shudder! The thought of a 'Scottish Deliverence', big ginger haired men in skirts with strange patterns clutching a copy of the Broons annual........... Still lovely scenery squire
