The demo lens in the shop was very smooth, my one is a bit stiff. It is very even though and feels ok, just needs quite some power to turn. Sometimes they smooth out quickly and other times it can take years. If you strongly prefer the feel of the demo lens maybe they'd let you exchange your new lens for it plus a discount?
