hi, i noticed your modified M6 has metal release button, how to do that?

Hi. The M6 is brand new (unopened when purchased in February) and I immediately sent to Don Goldberg for several MP upgrades. One of them being to switch out the lens release button for an MP style. He also performed a CLA and upgraded to MP flare-free optics, multi-coated windows, and alacarte vulkanit covering. Oddly enough, I am now, just as quickly selling it. All still brand new! ;)

It's here: A Good Life Sale

thanks Andy for the info.

your collection of a la carte MPs is impressive. My dream a la carte one is not yet available from Leica, I want a M7 with MP3 look. Furthermore, I want Leica to make their lens look like their 21 super angulon, 28 elmarit (ver 1) and 35 summicron (ver 1), complete with focus lock.

Why did it come to that then ?

Rolo

Hi Rolo,

it is very easy to answer, because I fall in love with the MP. I meanwhile also prefer to develop the film and to make prints with the enlarger.

It is not a rational decision.;)

Sounds very rational to me, LG. Glad to hear you are so passionate about it.

It's interesting that we shift around so much. All formats/media have different attributes and often we make gains with unexpected losses.

Your gear looks great.

Can't remember what mine looks like as it's been with Leica four months out of the last six. :-((

Wonder if I'll get an extension to my Passport ??

I'm about to do the same thing... Should have my new MP in about 2 days. I'll post it here.

Wow, that is a surpriser. Never imagine that coming.

Have been a follower of yur fab Japan series here and your Flickr site since. The M8 seemed real suited to your activity. How di hell you going all film M? What were the considerations if you don't mind me askin.

Will it be Seven Pics A Week hereon? :D

Leica is saved - MP sales buoyant to fill the M8 shortfall.

Oh, you are? I'm flattered...

Well the M8 still lies around but I'm not using it right now. My reasons:

For me, photography is a feeling. I miss some of that feeling with the M8. Also:

1. While bringing in my M8 for service for the third time, they checked my M6 and it was perfect, and that is after 20 years of use. That made me think.

2. While waiting for my M8 in the service center, I played around with an MP they had. The feeling was awesome to say the least. I was hooked.

3. I have been missing film for a while. Upon returning home I loaded a Kodak E100GX into my M6 and after getting the slides back I was so happy I decided to get back into film.

4. I have now decided to keep my M8 for jobs and use the MP for my diary / fun.

5. Yes it is 7/7, sometimes 10/10 now but the excitement while waiting for the slides is worth the wait, and my readers haven't complained so far. I still shoot and write daily.

6. And I just bought a Hasselblad 503cx for additional kick.

7. I go back to Japan in the fall. The M8 will stay home. I'll grab the Hassi with 80mm lens and the MP with 50mm lens. Simplicity is the key.

All the best to you.

I have the 35 cron, version IV, king of bokeh. I'll try it on the MP, but I've become more of a 50mm guy lately. Danke für den Tipp, Martin.

One Pic,

Much the same way as myself.

I decided to keep my MP (well, lend it to Solms as a service turnaround test camera), and bought a Hasselblad CFV back for my existing Hass gear instead of jumping for the M8.

The back cost less than a pair of M8's, is utterly reliable, produces the finest bokeh and we love the output. I'm sure that the next iteration of the digital M will push something else out of my kit bag though. :D

Would like to take a look into your blog sometime.

Yes I agree and have done exactly the same. I picked up a lovely Hassey 503cx with an 80m lens and along with my new Leica MP I am thoroughly enjoying the daily captures. My frames may only be one a day sometimes more, but I am seeing more meaningful images. I'm about to purchase a Epson scanner.

I just bought a 503cw w/80CFE lense myself. It is my new fave together with my MPs.

Totally different experience than using an M, but as rewarding in its own way, and with that same engineering integrity... enjoy being square!

Now have to save up for a CFVII and a new collection of lenses...
