jonnymoondog Posted February 24, 2016 Share #3321 Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) The old Leica cartridges don't work, but the modern bulk load cartridges work just fine. http://www.freestylephoto.biz/183125-Arista-35mm-Metal-Reloadable-Cartridge-25-pack You're totally sure about that, as in you use this yourself in your mp? Just want to be sure before I spend the money. Thanks for the link, too. Those look like better quality Edited February 24, 2016 by jonnymoondog
Advertisement Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Hi jonnymoondog, Take a look here I love my MP. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
animalhairs Posted February 24, 2016 Share #3322 Posted February 24, 2016 Yes, I am totally sure, as I have bulk loaded a few 1000 feet of XX with these Agfa style cartridges.
semi-ambivalent Posted February 24, 2016 Share #3323 Posted February 24, 2016 Yes, I am totally sure, as I have bulk loaded a few 1000 feet of XX with these Agfa style cartridges. I tried these but had trouble getting tape to stick to the wasp-waisted spools. That's why I went to the plastic cassettes; the spools are straight cylinders. If you're not bothered by this I'd like to know any tricks you have. Wouldn't mind using metal myself, as long as the caps don't pop off easily. thanks, s-a
animalhairs Posted February 24, 2016 Share #3324 Posted February 24, 2016 Hello s-a, I just use masking tape. Works great. I have never had an issue with the caps popping off. I have been using the same set of cartridges for about five years, so the quality is pretty good.

I have been using the same set of cartridges for about five years, so the quality is pretty good. So you put tape across the entire width of the film? I just tape in the middle and that's where the waist is; no adhesion. I'm using black gen-u-ine gaffer's tape. s-a
animalhairs Posted February 24, 2016 Share #3326 Posted February 24, 2016 I use 3/4" masking tape in about 1 1/2" strips. I just put 3/4" of tape on the film end and 3/4" on the spool. No issues.
NB23 Posted February 24, 2016 Share #3327 Posted February 24, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I reuse original canisters and it works like a charm. I have over 500 canisters with a lid coming out (color films, Tri-X, plus-X, Tmax320, Tmax100, HP5...). They don't have a cap that could pop out. I constantly re-use them. KAD Posted February 25, 2016 Share #3328 Posted February 25, 2016 My first MP just arrived. Used one with some brassing already, but I guess I do not need to worry about some new signs of use. Bougt a 50 Lux v2 to go with it. Very pleased with the combo so far! Welcome, dear visitor! DirkR440 Posted February 26, 2016 Share #3329 Posted February 26, 2016 Some weeks ago I got a beautiful half case from Arte di Mano for my MP as a present from my girlfriend: Welcome, dear visitor! NB23 Posted February 26, 2016 Share #3331 Posted February 26, 2016 A never-ready case. I'd go nuts if I had to use it...
DirkR440 Posted February 26, 2016 Share #3332 Posted February 26, 2016 A never-ready case. I'd go nuts if I had to use it... haha, then better don't get one I'm still always ready with my MP.
NB23 Posted February 26, 2016 Share #3333 Posted February 26, 2016 haha, then better don't get one I'm still always ready with my MP. Changing films, especially while street shooting in important moments, must be a nightmare.
DirkR440 Posted February 26, 2016 Share #3334 Posted February 26, 2016 Changing films, especially while street shooting in important moments, must be a nightmare. It is ok if you don't like it. I just like the style and I'm not worried about the two extra sec. that it takes to change a film. And there is one big advantage for me, it has a center tripod adapter which makes it able to use it with my flash bracket.
NB23 Posted February 26, 2016 Share #3335 Posted February 26, 2016 Yes, it'a all a matter of taste. I'm simply questioning how one can change film with such a setup without having 4 hands. One hand to hold the body, one to hold the baseplate. One to hold the never-ready case and one to hold the film. Yes, at some point we end up holding the baseplate and the film in the same hand but that case is still one too much. Ok, the mouth ends up being used as a holding device I imagine... It's really not a problem as long as you practise. You hold the camera in a sling around the neck. Pull away the ever ready case. Put it under your left armpit. Take away the baseplate while turning the camera upsdedown. Take out the film while holding the baseplate in your left hand and a new roll of film in you left little finger. Remove the film inside with your right hand, holding it with your right little finger. \ Switching the new roll of film to your right thunb and index finger. Keeping the filmstrip right with your left thunb and index finger. Putting in the film. Closing the baseplate. Let the MP hang around your neck. Put the old film back in the new filmbox. Putting the filmbox into your trousers. Putting the everreadycase under the camera. Rewind the shutter to " 1". In the time you have read it, it will be done.
Matlock Posted February 27, 2016 Share #3337 Posted February 27, 2016 I have half cases for all my Leica Ms and have never had any problems changing films. Slightly more complicated with my IIIg.
honcho Posted February 27, 2016 Share #3338 Posted February 27, 2016 All comes down to personal preference and not really relevant to anyone else. I don't like cases but I always use a grip with my MP. Other users don't like grips, I don't like soft releases. I prefer black lacquer to chrome and always use lenshoods. I prefer the .72 finder, others prefer another option. None of it matters. These cameras are meant to be used by photographers, not fondlers.

It keeps my camera in great condition. Not fondling, but just careful. I think this is the best everready case they ever made.
