Upgraded 35 Summicron Asph in the works?

The 35 Cron Asph is excellent. I doubt there is any reason to update it. The 35 Lux Asph might be another story, as it often has significant focus-shift with the M8, and thus might be re-balanced optically for less focus shift.

In view of the new standards reached with the 28 Summicron Asph, does anyone know if Leica plans on releasing a 35 Summicron to this same standard?

Scott what makes you think the 35mm Summicron is lagging in performance?

Two things just copied off Erwin Put's page. The Zeiss 35mm is the better erformer - so you can do better. A new 7 lens summciron is on the way (no specifics about wheter it is for M or R nor what focal length). I would rather expect a new Summciron 35 for R system.

Did Puts say Zeiss 35mm is the better performer?

I think Puts says the Biogon design is pushed too far for a 35mm f/2 lens.

The digital medium implies big enlargements (A3, A3+) and close inspection at the computer screen. The classical set of criteria for aberration correction and tolerances can be revised in future designs, optimizing for digital capture. However, the actual M lenses are superb, and perform very well on the M8. I have the Summilux 35mm ASPH and the Summilux 75mm. I can see a bit of focus shift on my lenses, but I am learning how to work with it, and I try to evaluate the results based on prints.
