I've only slowly come to use profiles over the past decade. First with the Panasonic G1, then rather extensively with the Ricoh GXR-M, a little bit with the Olympus E-M1.

The Leica M9, M-P typ 240, and now SL make them much more useful and easy to deal with: they're simple, nameable, and easy to set up. I defined all four profiles I use with the SL within a month after getting the camera a year ago, and they've been a major time saver for me since.

Profile1: R Lens :: standard setup for using R lenses, defaults to 50mm lens

Profile2: SWC :: my emulation of a Hasselblad SWC for use with 15-16mm focal length, defaults to 15mm lens

Profile3: SL-MF :: standard setup for the SL24-90, manual focus

Profile4: SL-AF :: standard setup for the SL24-90, autofocus

They just make it easy and quick to get back to a known, worked out configuration at any time. Very useful. All of them remained intact without anything else to do through the update process.
