FWIW, the Fuji GFX lens road map shows a 23mm weather resistant lens in mid-2017.  The EVF (detachable, with optional tilt) offers square format cropping.  

 

Although not sleek like the X1D, it will offer 'old school' controls.....ISO dial, shutter speed dial, aperture markings on lenses, etc....with modern features as well such as tilt  screen.

I'm completely uninterested in the Fuji. It's just another bulky thing with too many features and options. I'm interested in the X1D because it's small and relatively simple, and will do what I want if they make the right lens for it. The SL does nicely in the meantime.

 

I wish I could get the real equivalent of the SWC in a digital camera: a super-performing lens with a nice, big, square sensor and all of the feature options of the Leica M-D (that is, none at all ... just a meter; ISO, aperture, and shutter time settings; a shutter release; single, continuous, self timer drive modes). I'd sell nearly everything else for that camera.

Or if Hasselblad ever upgraded the CFV to a full 6x6, and took care of the angle issues resulting from the close proximity to the wonderful 38mm Biogon, the 'perfect' digital solution would at hand.

Yes, that would be great too ... and such a CFV back would work with my 500CM and other lenses too.  :)

 

But I suspect that designing a new 22mm-ish lens with comparable quality for the X1D would be less costly and sell more units, and to new customers. I expect the upcoming 30mm f/3.5 lens they've announced for the X1D will both perform and sell well; I'd just prefer a bit wider to match the SWC's square FoV. The DoF for an f/3.5 lens will be a little bit off but close enough on the X1D sensor.

And what makes you think I thought you'd be interested in more features?  I merely described a camera that had a 23mm lens on the way, with square VF cropping.  Sorry to disturb.

 

FWIW, I look at the Fuji as a simpler camera than the X1D, which is a modern menu/touch screendriven machine, unlike the Fuji that has a shutter speed dial, an ISO dial and aperture markings on the lens.  Bigger, yes, but small by MF standards.  Different strokes.....literally.

Yes, different standards of what we call "simple" and "complex" ... The X1D's controls are minimal, the touchscreen I learned how to use in less than three minutes. The Fuji has 27 buttons, knobs, and dials as well as a deep menu system to navigate. It's like the difference between my SL and my D750: the SL is far easier to learn and use.

I'm equally interested in both cameras, awaiting full testing.  If the Fuji ends up being complex like a Canon DSLR (that I've dismissed in part for that reason), then that will be a huge turnoff.  I need to experience it to decide.  There are many factors that could derail either system for me.  

 

But If you can't distinguish from an intended helpful post in response to your wide lens/square format needs and 'advertising copy', then I'll surely refrain from any more attempts.  The first sentence of my quote above included two key points....23mm WR lens on the way, and square format option.  The second sentence intentionally described the interface to distinguish it from the X1D, not to promote either....you're the one attaching the promotion.  Some like, some don't; I'm ambivalent, as long as it's easy and intuitive to use, while also weighing many other pros/cons of the respective systems.

It is a ball tearer. F-all distortion, really very impressive colour purity and sharpness that keeps this pixelpuffter (LOL) happy. I have to concede that the extra ISO of the SL makes it even better.

 

It's just a shame the Summilux can't be this good, because I had to buy both  :blink:

Packs quite a bit of punch for such a little b@stard of a thing :)

 

 

Neil being Neil   lol .....Super-Elmar-M = SEM.   I think you will enjoy that one Neil.
