rafikiphoto Posted December 9, 2016 Share #1  Posted December 9, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently noticed that one of the buttons one must press to release the lens hood #12592 for my 21mm f/2.8 ASPH Elmarit-M has disappeared leaving the spring showing and making removal of the lens hood difficult. With care and a ball-point pen it it is possible to press the spring inwards sufficiently to release the hood but it is not ideal. Leica Customer Care cannot help. If anyone has experienced this problem and found a solution I'd appreciate the help.
Advertisement Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Hi rafikiphoto, Take a look here Lens hood button for 21mm f/2.8 ASPH Elmarit-M. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Bill Livingston Posted December 9, 2016 Share #2  Posted December 9, 2016 There is a broken one on eBay at the moment (the hood is snapped off at the cut out section, it looks like the whole corner is missing).  It's in the UK and is currently on 'buy it now' £36 due to the damage... you could possibly use the parts to repair yours (or get a service centre to do it for you). You may even be able to get it a lot cheaper... I think I saw an 'offers' button on the auction too.  I can't see many Leica owners being interested in a hood as badly damaged as this, other than for spares...  Certainly cheaper than replacing the whole thing... although that's an option too... there is one there for £120 or thereabouts.  (Sorry I can't post a link, but a quick search should find it easily enough).  Hope this helps. rafikiphoto Posted December 9, 2016 Author Share #3  Posted December 9, 2016 Ben thanks so much for the pointers.  I have followed up on the damaged hood but I made three reasonable, IMO, offers but they were declined. I have put it on my watch list to make a decision on the full price later. There is a complete unit also on eBay with a fairly reasonable price but a very unreasonable postage of £25. I will sleep on it. Perhaps if I carry a few toothpicks in my bag I can get by.  Thank you again.
Bill Livingston Posted December 9, 2016 Share #4  Posted December 9, 2016 Glad you found it... maybe think about a revised offer in the morning. I doubt many people would be interested other than for spares, so the seller has a very limited potential market for it.  I'm not sure how easy it would be to cannibalise it to repair your own, but perhaps an email to the seller could get him to accept an offer if you explain the situation?  Anyway, let me know what happens...  (Btw, its Bill, not Ben... but it's fine... growing up in the UK in the sixties meant I was called Ben a lot in the school playground...!
