I just tried for first time connecting the SL ny using supplied USB cable to my mac book, try to import images to Lightroom, but it stuck and very slow, I have not much patience so I canceled transfer, take out the SD card to my MacBook.

Is it USB transfer this slow compare direct SD card insert to MacBook?

Thanks

I did not try to copy files from the SL, however I would not bother to stress the plug in the camera if you have an sd card reader.

I did tethering tests once with USB2 and USB3 on the Canon 5dsr, and there was no difference in transfer speed for single images after taking the shot between the 2.

So I something in the process was slower then the USB2 speed, could not take advantage of the usb3 I don't know if it was lightroom or the camera.

It does not have to be connected with what you experience but it could.

Simply use a card reader. That is the fastest and simplest way to transfer the images.

To check what is wrong with your solution, it is necessary to know all the details. (Firmware level, tools used, cable used, port used (USB3 capable ?), etc.

For example the last time I tried it - several months ago - the camera was on a lower firmware level and not recognized as external disk. So the transfer was not done with ftp (which is fast) but with a much slower protocol. So it took hours to transfer just a few Gigabytes.

If you want to use tethering (which is more than just transfer of images) make sure that the camera is on the latest level, that the latest version of Leica Image Shuttle is installed on the Mac, use a USB3 port on the Mac, use the original cable, etc...
