ckchen72 Posted June 15, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm a little confused on the 8 bit/16 bit depth controversy. From my understanding it captures in 16 bit but embeds in 8 bit. So when using ACR do you chose 8 bit/ ot 16 bit under the area where it says "show workflow options"? Thanks still on a learning curve...

barjohn Posted June 15, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 15, 2007 You use 16 bit. The 8 bits are a compressed format and when decoded in ACR it decodes to 14 bits (16 bits with the two lowest value bits discarded prior to compression). You want the 16 bit value to give you the widest latitude in manipulating the image and the largest range of shades.
