My nearly new 12mm CV lens hood has stripped threads. Anyone have a handy solution?

I took to camera repair place and they want 80.00 USD for re threading. They suggested buying new hood. Sounds like a hassle trying to find one.

I just had lunch with John and i got a new 12mm hood that he designed , really once again a beatifull piece of milling. Anyway same issue i had with the orginal one and super glued it . Now i will rip that off and replace it and than put a 55mm filter

If the threads are actually stripped (the lock widget turns but doesn't tighten), I'd tap the threads to the next size and buy an appropriate thumbscrew before I'd use glue. Right now you have a good lens and a bad hood. Use glue and you'll still have a bad hood, but will have a bad lens as well.

Right. The treads are gone. I like this style of hood and want to keep it. I like the compact nature of it. The repair shop wants 80.00 USD to tap and retread. This seems like way too much. Do all of you have your taps? Were do you get them and how much do they cost?

Since the hood is aluminum, I think, the threads will never last when you tighten the screw down and loosen it time and time again. If you plan on tapping it out to a larger thread you might as well do it even bigger and put a stainless steel helicoil (SP) in it. A helicoil is a wound piece of SS that threads into a object and has smaller threads on the inside.

They are used on everything that is of good quality and is aluminum that needs to have a screw/bolt in it that is loosened and tightened often.

if you send me your stripped ones, i can helicoil them for a minimal charge. the problem seems to be that Voightlander puts an e-ring on the screw so it will not loosen all the way and fall out. if you unscrew it too far, the e-ring will jam and continued turning will strip the threads.

Why doesn't anyone let CV know about this problem and ask for replacement? I have the same problem and asking now from Stephen to change it.

Lens is fine but such a problem appearing in the first use is shame for CV.

John your hood setup is a better design overall anyway and creates more of a shade . Now need to figure a way to get the super glued one off. I really put it on. oh well off to shoot
