Tailwagger Posted October 21, 2016 Share #21 Posted October 21, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Highlight mine... Yes and No. You are right that in full manual mode you control the exposure fully. But if you rely on in-camera light meter to determine correct exposure then you should note that EC comp shifts lightmeter's reading. See my post #10 (second para). In the interest of exactitude, yes, I should have added 'to the exposure."
Advertisement Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 Hi Tailwagger, Take a look here Leica M-P 240 Exposure Compensation Question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cnick6 Posted October 21, 2016 Author Share #22 Posted October 21, 2016 In manual exposure mode, the EC applies to the exposure metering only. I would find it misleading and extremely annoying if the camera failed to apply the ASA and speed settings exactly as set by myself. As soon as you use the internal light meter, it becomes immediately obvious that it applies the EC. It's not inactive. It applies to the metering only. Gotcha Pop, okay now I understand jmahto's paragraph too. Now I'm starting to get this a bit more. I'll need to read up on this a bit more as well. I always assumed from my previous digital cameras that EC was "EC" and that didn't change, but now I'm understanding this better. Thanks!
jmahto Posted October 21, 2016 Share #23 Posted October 21, 2016 If you are relying on in camera light meter to determine correct exposure then why in sodomy are you using manual speed selection? It beggars belief. I don't understand your response. Won't you use a light meter even if you are setting everything manually? To me, light meter is a valuable tool. It doesn't mean I have to set exactly what meter says. My response was to EC question. It is important to know how EC affects light meter reading. Ignore my comment if it is not helpful to you. Exodies Posted October 21, 2016 Share #24 Posted October 21, 2016 I was thinking that if you are reading the meter then setting the same speed it's a peculiar thing to do. If you are not setting the same speed then you are judging the exposure for yourself and reading the meter isn't helping.
