tbarker13 Posted June 13, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Noticed tonight that KEH has a 75 lux (rated ex) for $1,739. Not too shabby compared to what those lenses have been going for on ebay lately.

bill vann Posted June 13, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 13, 2007 i've seen them upwards of $2200. been watching as i may need to change kits due to severe spinal prrobs and multiple surgeries. even more shocking is how rare they are. there are a few folks who'll disagree but as last time name who has them and the price don't just say lots of folks have them at great prices. try to get a version 4 35mm pre asph (although a few have surfaced lately) also rare and expensive. if forced to sell my kit i'll make sure to make it available here first, have some really interesting stuff and some good ol normal leica stuff kindly bill vann
rosuna Posted June 13, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 13, 2007 The Summilux 75 never was a best seller, but it was produced during 25 years. It was rare in the second hand market. Now this lens is out of production, and the demand has increased due to the M8 and the "collector" effect. Besides, this lens is a great performer, very good stopping down and comparable to the new Summicron. I was looking for one in the second hand market but is is very difficult to find, and expensive (2000 euros for mint copies). Therefore, I used my 30% discount letter in a new version of this lens. jackal Posted June 13, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 13, 2007 $2200 is cheap as chips good ones here go for ~1500 GBP, so circa $3000 there was one in a german auction house that i bid on 2 weeks ago, completely as new and boxed etc.. I put in a bid for around 1400 GBP but lost out
huwge Posted June 13, 2007 Share #7 Posted June 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jackal - try some of the German camera sites: Leica bei Meister, in Hamburg and Berlin and shphoto as examples. I think they all offer English on their sites. You won't get hit with import duty and I think the prices are significantly better than in UK, at least that's how it seems to me and they have reasonable stock. I paid €1750 for a Summilux 75 in mint condition, without case. I think Leica bei Meister offer a 14 day sale or return service, where you cover the postage. carstenw Posted June 13, 2007 Share #8 Posted June 13, 2007 The only 75 Lux I have seen at Leica Camera Berlin recently was reasonably beat up, but optically perfect, and around €1700. I think the prices are on the rise.

bill vann Posted June 13, 2007 Share #10 Posted June 13, 2007 beg to differ re the quality, it paints such a lovely picture i am not surprised people have become "aware" of their qualities. bill
Artichoke Posted June 13, 2007 Share #11 Posted June 13, 2007 It's ok - nothing to write home about. Not very sharp when open, a good people lens. Edmund you must have a bad version mine is tack sharp wide open ...the bokeh is heavenly as well now if only Leica will come through with the 60 mm ir/cut filter this lens takes
innerimager Posted June 13, 2007 Share #12 Posted June 13, 2007 I agree Arthur. Focus at 1.4 can be tricky of course, but dial it in and it is very sharp at it's thin DOF edge. Not POP sharp like the 50/lux asph at 1.4, but what is? And this more subtle showing is perfect for portraiture, in that I agree with Edmond. best...Peter
tbarker13 Posted June 14, 2007 Author Share #13 Posted June 14, 2007 I picked one up recently in a trade. I absolutely love the thing. Of course it is heavy - relatively speaking. Mine is a bit tough to focus at 1.4, but it is pretty darn sharp when I hit it. Just picked up a 1.25 magnifier, which seems to help.
carstenw Posted June 14, 2007 Share #14 Posted June 14, 2007 Mine is also surprisingly sharp wide open, although it is no APO. I love the look, and even miss the extra softness of the 80 Lux-R on a 5D.
