M-240 hot shoe screw missing/lost

Hi all,

The little screw at the front of the hot shoe on my M-240 has disappeared, and the thin metal plate that forms the top of the hot shoe has come off (I do have it though, but not the screw).

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it as simple as putting a new screw in there to re-secure the thin metal plate? I should pop into Leica Mayfair and hope they have such a screw.

The hot shoe still works.

Thanks!

Yeah. This happened to me also and I lost the thin hot shoe cover as a result. It was a pain. I could not properly mount my flash and my EVF (in fact I lost 2 EVF's that simply fell off as I was walking about). I live in Hong Kong and Leica's agent here had no ability to fix it. I had to send it back to Germany; it took about a month to fix (along with some other things).

Good luck with it.

Strange, mine doesn't  have a screw at that position - in fact no screw on the hot shoe at all which is very secure, no movement by hand possible

I found this image online, is the same as mine, which is Ser#4822xxx.  https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7747/18305139585_271a3d1b71_b.jpg

Under close examination, where the screw would be, appears to be a light sensor.  Hole is not threaded

I recall those post/screws in manual bodies - seemed to be a stop

Is it not a screw hole then?

In which case the metal plate has simply come off and I can't see how it is fixed.

On my silver M, the black dot on this image looks like a screw to me but I may be wrong. The silver upside-down U-shaped metal plate within the hot shoe is the bit which has been detached.

The first image shows the shoe of my Leica SF26 Flash and the locking pin can be seen at the centre top of the shoe.

The second image shows the shoe of my M240 and a small round hole can be seen at the corresponding top centre position. The flash has a button which when pressed retracts the pin so that the flash can be safely removed.

Really helpful - thanks for taking the time to take and post those pics. So my problem is that the metal plate has become detached. I can't see an obvious way to reattach it. I had thought it was screwed on but obviously not - I must have dislodged it somehow or it pinged off when I pulled a flash off.

Right, it's all sorted. The little silver plate slides onto the hotshoe but is prevented from sliding in all the way by a little tab on the front that has to go into a corresponding notch on the body.

The front edge of the plate needs to be pushed down a bit to get the tab into the slot, and the plate then just clips in. No problem once you know how.

Thanks for the help team.

Leica Mayfair have a small workshop & great tech-guy. I'm sure he'll be able to fix it & you can have a coffee whilst you wait.

i apologise for any confusion. i was thinking of my monochrom v.1, which has a small screw in the hotshoe..the m-240 has no screw there.
