BigBabyEarl Posted October 4, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 4, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) So I'm starting to see the M60 set at reasonable prices and it has me thinking. I've always thought it was a beautiful kit, simple, clean. Something about it has me enamoured. My question is, at this moment does it make any sense? I just feel like something new is inevitable in terms of an M (it will come to us eventually, we know that). Will the M 60 be something that sustains beyond its beauty? I know the M-D is new and lots of people like it so does it fall in line with that in terms of use? Thoughts from owners would be appreciated. Advertisement Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Hi BigBabyEarl, Take a look here M 60. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
michaelwj Posted October 4, 2016 Share #2 Posted October 4, 2016 IMHO it makes about as much sense as an MP-3, or a similarly expensive film Leica. IIRC you could justify the film cameras, is it the digital-ness that worries you? Would you buy an M-D? The M60 is just a special M-D, just like the MP-3 is just a special MP. (If money was no object, I would buy the MP-3 over the MP, but find it hard to justify the M60 over the M-D)

michaelwj Posted October 4, 2016 Share #4 Posted October 4, 2016 Used, the M60 price is about the same as a M-D and 35 FLE. That doesn't make it easy then! I suppose if you want/need the 35 FLE and like the finish of the M60 then go for it, it's not likely to be worth less than an M-D used in 5 years is it? Budfox Posted October 8, 2016 Share #5 Posted October 8, 2016 The M-D is more usable mostly due to the strap lugs. It also has (in order of decreasing usefulness), thumb rest, shutter timer, continuous shooting mode (M60 is single shot only), normal shutter button with hole for remote cord, exposure compensation, and frame selector. M-D feels more retro and inconspicuous, M60 more modern and conspicuous. Most lens (i.e. black) suit the M-D better. The M60 is of course the most attractive camera Leica has ever made. But in utility and usability the M-D is probably a better choice.

Budfox Posted October 12, 2016 Share #9 Posted October 12, 2016 Yes looks may be subjective, granted. Ikaris is right, the M60 has a bigger 2GB buffer. Which makes it stange that they removed the continuous shooting mode from the M60. That are both great cameras in any case. Now the M60 lens, that is definitely, unarguably, and objectively the best looking lens Leica has ever made.
