Surgery on the Voigtlander 15mm III

Another person drilled a small hole in the vertical lens shade 'leaf', threaded it and put a tiny thumbscrew in it. That would retain a rimless glass filter. I do not  remember the size, but I could measure mine.

I love my Heliar III but, because I am mechanically challenged, I'd never attempt this!  :o However I congratlate you on your success...

Thank you rafikiphoto, it was a bit scary to put a saw to it, but it turned out well :D

pico, the 15mm has a filter thread already, so I don't see why you would go all that trouble to use a round filter with it - the reason I did the hack was to be able to use square filters with it :D

Not a bad job at all.

A milling machine would have done it more cleanly, if you happened to have one of those around... ;-)

I actually do, one came with the house when I moved, it actually is in perfect working shape but I never used and felt bad about trying it first on the 15mm ;) inexperience with the tool aside, for some reasons I preferred to do the cutting and filing manually, I thought less could go wrong and less vibrations on the lens, but you definitely have a point there.

I couldn't bear to look.

jrp, the patient survived and it's in much better shape than before (for my use, at least!) :D

I will probably never buy any used gear from you...  :)

LOL :D JorisV, you'd better ask for pictures of the gear! :D Seriously, I always treat my gear very well, this is the first time I attempt anything like this - however, I felt it was worth it, the 15mm is such a good lens with what to me is a huge design flaw (its built-in lens hood), so I thought I'd give it a try... ;)

I was talking about version 1.
