steppenw0lf Posted August 18, 2016 Share #3 Â Posted August 18, 2016 It's maybe too new and too expensive. If anybody uses it professionally, he will first test it in a smaller event. And continue using his trusted and tested equipment for this mega-event. And there is only a single lens (90-280) - compare this to a wide selection in Canon or Nikon gear (or Sony, which is there already a lot longer). Would you go to an important event with a single lens ? (probably not even to an important wedding). Â I could imagine that the big equipment is owned by the papers/news companies or rented. Guess how much easier it is to rent the "classic" equipment - and think about availability (and backup equipment). The 90-280 came earlier than announced, but still in limited numbers - I had to wait 6 months. Â So I am not really surprised that "nobody" is using it. (but I am maybe wrong ... ) Â
jmahto Posted August 18, 2016 Share #4 Â Posted August 18, 2016 What Canon does to support pro photographers in a major event like Olympics... Pro support is essential.https://www.digitalphotopro.com/newswire/supporting-pro-photographers-rio-olympic-games/
bernie.lcf Posted August 18, 2016 Share #5 Â Posted August 18, 2016 And so does Nikon. Â Sports probably isn't the pro area Leica had in mind for the SL. Apart from the customer service at major events that Leica will never provide, the top end Canon and Nikon are vastly superior in AF performance, frame burst rate and anything else that matters for pro sports photographers. The one area where Leica shines, image quality, is not a major conceen for sports that typically gets printed at max. A4 size in 150 dpi or reproduced for Web and TV. Â If, however, we look at fashion and studio, it's a different story
Joshua Lowe Posted August 18, 2016 Share #6 Â Posted August 18, 2016 Â Â Sports probably isn't the pro area Leica had in mind for the SL. The early marketing materials were nothing but sports. Â Ferrari F1 cars on track, etc. Â
