John McMaster Posted July 31, 2016 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2016 Wow, that is a huge but very rare lens ;-) The S APO-Elmar 180/3.5 is a superb lens (of course) but you will likely need the ELPRO for tighter head shots. john

Jeff S Posted July 31, 2016 Share #4 Posted July 31, 2016 Thanks.....I will just try with my 120mm macro and see how tight I can get I hope you understood the prior comment about "huge and rare" referred to your calling the 180 a Summilux, which would be f1.4, and indeed a huge lens. The actual lens is a f3.5 Elmar, similar in size to your 120. That said, asking the question without first trying the lens you have is quintessentially Neil. John McMaster Posted July 31, 2016 Share #10 Posted July 31, 2016 Thanks.....I will just try with my 120mm macro and see how tight I can get I do despair, the 120mm is a MACRO lens that does 1/2 life size so of course it will get in tighter, it is just what the perspective may look like compared to a longer lens. I thought you had tried the Hasselblad V 180mm to see what the focal length did on an S? john
Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted July 31, 2016 Share #11 Posted July 31, 2016 I haven't been home yet, I am currently in Nigeria and won't be home until the 20th. But thanks for reminding me about the 180mm HB lens. I'm placing an order with B&H for film and some odds and ends so will look and see what adapters they have and add that to the list. If I remember rightly you mentioned before about not getting the Leica $$$$$$$ adapter and get another brand............what brand was that??? Question about using a Hasselblad lens on the S.....how do you meter?? Forgot to mention my 120 is in Belin getting a new AF motor
f22photographie Posted July 31, 2016 Share #12 Posted July 31, 2016 Hi Neil, I recently purchased a used 180mm Apo-Elmar on Ebay and took it along to our local waterfront/couple of close ups at home for a quick check to make sure everything was O.K. Please find attached a few of images from my testings, which I hope will help you with both distance and head and shoulders distances. Owing to max size of upload, (18.56KB), I have attached the close-up ones on a second reply. Cheers for now, Mike. P.S. If you want them at full res, just send me an e-mail and I will duly oblige... Jeff S Posted July 31, 2016 Share #17 Posted July 31, 2016 my 120 lens is in berlin getting a new af motor Interesting reason to consider a 180, but if you do, you might also consider one with a Protection Plan that includes a loaner for similar circumstances.
