steveBK Posted July 26, 2016 Share #1 Posted July 26, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wondering if anyone has run into this? It seems to have developed over the last few months on my 2.5yr old M240. I noticed a few months back that in between shoots, the shutter release got very stiff. The first click (when powered on or off) there was a lot of resistance, and I could not feel the two-step shutter release (half press / full press). Once I clicked once, it loosened back up and behaved like normal. It now seems to have progressed so that if I leave the camera for an hour or two, the shutter release stiffens back up like this. Anyone experience this, I assume it's off to be serviced by Leica, just curious of ETA / what might be wrong..

FMB Posted July 26, 2016 Share #5 Posted July 26, 2016 Sorry. I wanted to say my 240 does exactly the same you have described. But not always. I haven't done anything like waiting. If that behavior goes worse, then I'll send it to Customer Service. May be it needs some inner grease. Regards, Francisco.
lawman Posted July 26, 2016 Share #6 Posted July 26, 2016 Do you use a softie-type shutter button? Why would this matter? Please explain.
kenf Posted July 26, 2016 Share #7 Posted July 26, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Why would this matter? Please explain. Some cameras can be damaged with the use of a poorly fitting auxiliary shutter button. I have no idea if the M240 is one of those, but thought I'd ask. albireo_double Posted July 26, 2016 Share #8 Posted July 26, 2016 I had the same problem with my M-P 240 that developed after about two months from buying the camera, during a major trip. Shutter button stiff and nothing happened when pressed, or released with a delay. Problem appeared intermittently; I was able to use the camera most of the time but it was frustrating. Leica replaced the shutter under warranty (took them about 10 weeks).
steveBK Posted July 26, 2016 Author Share #9 Posted July 26, 2016 Well I've just sent mine in. It's out of warranty at this point, but seems to be a not uncommon problem.. will see what they say about it.
FeralCoton Posted July 27, 2016 Share #10 Posted July 27, 2016 I had that on my one year old mp-240. It wasn't hugely sticky, but noticeably different and mainly not 'springy' on the return. I moistened cotton swab with alcohol and ran it around the button then worked it up and down a number of times. It seemed to return to normal. mdg1371 Posted July 27, 2016 Share #11 Posted July 27, 2016 Mine does it at initial start up, first release is stiff, then everything is fine. It has been like that for at least a year, no progression.
edwardkaraa Posted July 27, 2016 Share #12 Posted July 27, 2016 My old M6 had the same problem. My technician removed a large piece of gunk from underneath and it worked perfectly afterwards.
Chuck68 Posted July 30, 2016 Share #13 Posted July 30, 2016 I have the same problem regarding rhe shutter button, before that it was the wheel on the back which was fixed under warrenty.
