StS Posted June 17, 2007 Share #41 Posted June 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the impression we are discussing on two slightly different levels. Do I consider film loading in my M3 as current technology? No. Does this bother me? No. Why not? It doesn’t give trouble if done correctly. The camera is 52 years old, I give it some leeway for crotchety, especially since the image quality is still beyond discussion. If I need more speedy technology, I will use a SLR instead. The M is for Sunday afternoons. Am I easily satisfied with camera technology? No, I expect image quality at a level to allow large prints to hang on the wall. However, when trying to make things more foolproof they often get 'worseimproved'. As an example - I don’t like the use of the ‘point and shoot’ I used to take the images earlier in this thread (large depth of focus though due to short focal lengths). The shutter lag is too long. It also came with the promise everything can be set by hand. In practice it is awkward to do so since it means searching the right function in the right submenu. I find this annoying for functions I use regularly (ISO, white balance, aperture, shutter speed). As an off-topic example: I haven’t got an issue with menus in principle, my car has a menu based system to control the stereo, phone, navigation and air conditioning, which makes sense to me. I would be annoyed, however, if it would also control the transmission or direction indicator. Hope this explained the direction I was thinking Cheers Stefan

StS Posted June 17, 2007 Share #42 Posted June 17, 2007 Which model ditched the take up separate take up spool? I think it was the M4, which was the first to have the integrated take up spool. Some people have this fitted to their M3’s.
