RFH Posted July 16, 2016 Share #1  Posted July 16, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) My Summicron 35 v.4 went in for repair at a local repair service due to a misaligned lens element. The problem reoccurred, so I decided to take a look for myself. Now I need the advice of someone with intimate knowledge of this lens.  After removing the front element, I see this:    The second lens group sits in the centre of the metal disc seen in the attached photo. As it is now, the lens group can be lifted out. Is something supposed to hold it in place?  I found video of a 35 Summicron v.3 being disassembled. Around 3:30 minutes he removes a spanner ring to get the second element out.  Looking at my photo, the top thread holds the front element (1st edge highlight), but the next thread (2nd edge highlight) is unused, which seems strange to me.  The grey ring around the glass... I initially assumed that this was where the rear of the front element kept the second pressed in place, but according to my caliper, this is not the case.  Any knowledge sharing will be greatly appreciated. bocaburger Posted July 19, 2016 Share #2  Posted July 19, 2016 If as you say the 2nd group just lifts out, and is not held in place by pressure from the rear of the front element, then when it's assembled I would think you should be able to hear/feel the 2nd group shift fore and aft if you invert/shake the lens. If that's the case then for sure something's amiss.  I would then send it to someone who knows the particular lens, whether that be the Leica agency or one of the well-known indies.
