A new Leica camera, including wi-fi and/or a GPS module and 'made in Germany' as the Leica SL, Q and T should be announced shortly: on July 11th, 2016, Postel, the Indonesian telecommunication agency, registered the "Leica-8854". They report the camera being tested at their test centre ("Balai Uji" = test centre).

The pros can hope for an image size of 88x54 cm. Leica bought Sinar and not much new has come out of that. So a new sensor and a new camera, that would be something! All the tilt and shift possibilities in large format cameras/ lenses are more or less useless with today's digital backs. So one could hope for a digital back like the old 6/9 cm and a new digital camera with the same sensor. The camera could resemble the Fuji and plaubels from the film days. A gigantic Leica with rangefinder and all, but a modern Evf. Could also be nice. Leicas focus on the pro segment at this years photokina, makes the hopes sound a lite bit plausible.

Leica '8854' has been registered by NCC, the National Communications Commission in Taïwan.

We learn from this registration that Leica '8854' shares its battery (BP-DC13) with Leica T. Is it a clue?

Do you mean a sensor size of 88x54 millimeters?  88x54 centimeters would be a sensor measuring 34.64x21.25 inches... :o

After the "Leica - 8854",  Postel, the Indonesian telecommunication agency, registered the "Leica - 3656", also 'made in Germany'.

Therefore, there will be at least two high-end Leica cameras announced at Photokina, the 8854 being the successor to Leica T and the 3656, may be the successor to Leica M (Typ 240).
