rbaron Posted June 8, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) First M8 had shutter lock up after 30 days. Replacement arrived from NJ today. They said they were sending a 'new' one but I don't know if it is; it has a few small nicks and such. Be that as it may, it came with firmware 1.09. I took a few snaps and all seemed well. I then upgraded the firmware to 1.102. Now the Play button doesn't work. It worked before I upgraded the firmware. And I know I am taking images because if I set the Menu to Image Review they will show, and of course I can see them when I put the card in a card reader. I've done a quick search on this forum but haven't found the answer yet. Any ideas? And if I need to reinstall firmware 1.09, where can I find it? Thanks, --Bob
Advertisement Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Hi rbaron, Take a look here "Play" Button Does Not Work. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wparsonsgisnet Posted June 8, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 8, 2007 Bob, a number of us can send you the previous firmware. What I wonder is if your M8 has learned the strange behavior that mine and a few others have. This behavior appeared at the time of an upgrade. When I power on, I must press the shutter button for the wake-up cycle to finish. You didn't say enuf to indicate if this is the problem. When you turn your M8 on, does the red light wink? If not, when you touch the shutter does the red light then blink? If this is your (new) M8 syndrome, then after the red light winks, play should work. This is actually a failure of the M8 but as it's not broken by my lights it's not going to get this fixed. Lemme know if this works.
rbaron Posted June 8, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted June 8, 2007 Bill, when I turn this 'new' M8 on the red light winks before I touch anything. And it apparently goes through the wake up cycle just fine. Everything seems to be working just as my original M8 did (before the shutter locked up after 30 days and almost 800 images). It is just that since the firmware upgrade I performed a little while ago, the Play button no longer works. --Bob
rbaron Posted June 8, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted June 8, 2007 To add: when I got my 'first' M8 in April, it also came with the older firmware. I upgraded the same day I received it and it worked just fine (until the shutter locked up).
rbaron Posted June 8, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted June 8, 2007 Additionally, when I power this new one up, the red light does not what I would call wink or blink; it just comes on for a second or so and then goes off. Thanks, --Bob
rbaron Posted June 8, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted June 8, 2007 Now I find that when I have the shutter dial on A and press the shutter release, I just get a Click but no obvious shutter activity. If I then rotate the dial a slight distance the shutter actuates. I am afraid I have another bad one. Geez this is depressing. I would like to try installing the older firmware if someone would make it available to me, but I strongly suspect this replacement body has bad electronics. No winking or blinking The fact that mine requires a half press means I have a faulty power switch which can only be replaced in Solms. I wish these guys would get their local offices trained to do this.....

rbaron Posted June 9, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted June 9, 2007 The shutter dial seems to be working ok now. I re-downloaded and reinstalled firmware 1.102. Everything appears to work as it should. Except for the Play button, which does not work at all. It stopped working when I upgraded to 1.102. Could that be a clue? Or a coincidence?
