Deliberate1 Posted July 5, 2016 Share #1 Posted July 5, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Friends, since acquiring my S 006 last November I have been using the 16 gb Lexar cards I have owned for several years for use with my M9. Despite their age (4+ years), they have served me well. They are 10 speed - if the 10 in C designates that, though there is also an indication for "133x speed." Having never used a more current card,I wonder if they would allow my camera to boot up a bit more quickly, or facilitate faster zoom magnification on review. Or perhaps a smaller card would achieve that goal. I am shooting compressed DNG. Much obliged the help. David

John McMaster Posted July 5, 2016 Share #2 Posted July 5, 2016 I would use CF cards, I think the S(007) is the first that uses SD cards well.... john
mgrayson3 Posted July 5, 2016 Share #3 Posted July 5, 2016 I use the 95MB/s SanDisk Extreme Pro SD cards in the S(006) and they haven't given me any problems. I like them because I can just stick it in my laptop and don't need a card reader. I don't miss the CF cards at all. YMMV, Matt

albertknappmd Posted July 11, 2016 Share #5 Posted July 11, 2016 I use the SanDisk extreme PRO 64 GB SD and CF cards. I prefer the CF as it is a bit easier to handle but the SD cards are just as fast now.. Albert
LorenzoLandini Posted July 11, 2016 Share #6 Posted July 11, 2016 Same here, I use the SanDisk extreme PRO 64 GB SD and CF cards. I inquired Leica and it appears the S cannot handle anything larger than 64GB. While the camera works fine with the 64GB cards, I'd have to say though, that I regret using the 64GB since the 32GB cards would most likely make the camera a bit faster at start up since the S reads all the cards before being ready. Also the 64GB cards can storage a lot of not compressed DNG files, not to mention JPEG, and while this can be convenient it also increases the risk in case of failure of a card. Many folks out there prefer using the SD cards only or the CF cards only, personally I use the CF cards for the DNG files and the SD cards for the back-up JPEG files in case something happen to the CF card. Arif Posted July 12, 2016 Share #7 Posted July 12, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have on occasion used the 256GB Transcend SDXC cards (had bought it for movies) and it works just fine on the S/S2/SL.
LorenzoLandini Posted July 12, 2016 Share #8 Posted July 12, 2016 Arif, thanks for sharing. Good to know that eventually a card greater than 64GB works despite the response I got from Leica North America. Thank you.
