Tae Young Lee Posted July 4, 2016 Share #1  Posted July 4, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is there anyone who can tell me about the difference between summilux 35mm f/1.4 v1 early serial (170-) and late serial (200-)?  I heard that summilux 35mm v1 early serial showed more glow effects, a better transparent color  Summilux 35mm v1 later serial, however, showed better sharpness and contrast a little bit.  Is this true? Welcome, dear visitor! michaelwj Posted July 4, 2016 Share #4 Â Posted July 4, 2016 Depends on who you ask (and I think the SN of their own lens)! Either the earlier ones were better; later ones were better; or they're all the same. I believe the life your copy has had will determine how it behaves. michaelwj Posted July 4, 2016 Share #5 Â Posted July 4, 2016 mega-BS? Â Could you tell me more about the meta-BS? Â Probably something about a mystery coating change that went undocumented but makes my lens better than the one with the old coatings.

After that the only changes were to the mechanics of the lens. Again, optics the same.

@McLeica Posted July 4, 2016 Share #8  Posted July 4, 2016 Yes, I know. But, coatings are different  Well you've answered your own question if that's the case. Or is this another case of Leica urban mythology as per Michael's comment.
Tae Young Lee Posted July 5, 2016 Author Share #9  Posted July 5, 2016 Well you've answered your own question if that's the case. Or is this another case of Leica urban mythology as per Michael's comment. Not mythology, Most of the early serial lenses have blue, violet colored coating, but in later serial (200-) also include type 2 lens, most of the lenses have amber colored coating. It is easily seen in ebay items. Do you have an image of one without amber?
