tzeruk Posted June 29, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all - I found a very cheap used M Monochrom 246 on craigslist and I'm worried it might be stolen or fake (is that even possible?) I have gotten a lot of pictures of the camera (including serial number) but I'm not sure how far that will get me as far as verifying this camera. Almost too good to be true, and you know what they say about that. Is there a way to verify if a camera is "legit"? Perhaps by calling the local Leica? Thanks in advance for any help. Advertisement Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Hi tzeruk, Take a look here Check Serial Numbers?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Manoleica Posted June 29, 2016 Share #2 Posted June 29, 2016 Ask to meet in person at a Public place..Inspect the camera, ask for receipts, prior to meeting ask for the Make. Model & Serial that is shown on the Camera, is it boxed, initially bought when, where? Is a lens included? Ask the seller's full name & address, Then check with Leica, finally -- Use the camera with your own SD Card.. If you are happy, go to local bank & pay via Bankers Draught.. Giulio Zanni Posted June 29, 2016 Share #3 Posted June 29, 2016 I am not aware of fake 246s. As suggested above ask Leica to verify the serial number, meet in person, ask to try the camera, if all in order you got a deal.
tzeruk Posted June 30, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted June 30, 2016 Thank you both. I am possibly going to go forward with this I think now that I'm 99.9% sure this isn't a fake. Last steps is confirming with paypal if I'm covered if this guy sends me a box of coal (unfortunately can't see it in person.)
