Hi,

Sorry if this has been asked before but I am trying to understand how better are the different S models in terms of their high iso performance. Is it fair to say that the S006 is better than the S2 by one stop, and that the S007 is better than the S006 by another stop?

Thanks

I would say the S007 is better than the S006 by close to 2 stops. For me the most important effect is not low light shooting per se, more that it extends the usage envelope of the S camera - since MF is more vulnerable to camera shake, increasing ISO lets me keep a decent shutter speed to shoot handheld in limited light, for example in forests, indoors etc.

With the S006 I often encountered situations where I had to increase shutter speed to a point where I did not get sharp pictures anymore handheld, although I did a wedding indoors (in good summer light, large windows) with ISO 800 and good results.

So, it is really that the camera becomes more versatile and usable in more situations. I think this is taken at ISO 400 1/60 S-24mm handheld, Pescadero Creek, with the S007. So I still had some headroom, but it shows that even in sunny California light can be very limited in certain situations.

Thank you.

I am asking for exactly the same reasons. Leaving in London, where we do not get as much sun, and trying to shoot with natural light (e.g. for portraits/nature) means that I need higher speeds even when a lens is used wide open. I rarely use a tripod. In the past I found the files from my S2 acceptable up to about 800, sometimes 1250...

Daedalus-

If you are happy with ISO 800 on 006, you will be pleased with ISO 3200 on 007...

Just don't get too near to the Sun!  :D  :D  :D

Albert  :)  :)  :)

:) my wings do not melt, that was the old version!  :)  :)  :)

BTW, I have the S2P, which I think it is even worse than the S006 in terms of iso... We have some sun these days, I need to take it out for a spin soon...
